We've been banging on about Suff Daddy for a while now: we love his laid back narrative hip hop style. This is his first artist album (the previous output being the compiler of MPM's Hi-Hat Club series) and is made up of a series of mainly short tracks, some instrumental, that tell the story of Suff Daddy's life, from trivia such as 'Konnopke' which describes Berlin's (allegedly) best currywurst, through 'Ă–zdemir' which brings out Suff's love of Turkish beats, to 'Worst Case Scenario' which describes a relationship break-up. The other musicians deserve mention as well, all friends of Mr Daddy: there's singer and trumpeter Miles Bonny (soon to release his own LP) and vocalists Fleur Earth, Mar and Miriama. The sum-of-the-parts is that you get a really good idea of who this man is and what he is about, which is a big achievement for any record. Out now on Melting Pot Music.
Suff Daddy ft. Miles Bonny - 5 O'Clock Suff From his forthcoming LP, 'Gin Diaries', comes this track from Suff Daddy: '5 O'Clock Suff' which features Miles Bonny. Released on the 16th April on Melting Pot Music.
It was only just the other day we were talking about Suff Daddy's free remix download, and now we're already going on about his forthcoming LP on Melting Pot Music, entitled 'The Gin Diaries'. The reason is that it all sounds rather good. With a strong hip hop backing, these are songs with a groove. Just listen to 'Konnopke' which samples one of our favourite soul tracks; Darondo's 'Didn't I'. Out on 16th April on MPM. Full review to follow shortly, but meantime listen to a couple of tracks right here...
