Just to warn you, this record will affect the way you think of the other records you listen to after this one. It’s not a paradigm shift or anything so dramatic, it’s just that ‘CTRL ALT Delete’ shows what you can do with music if you put your mind to it. And Chris Alfaro, aka Free The Robots, certainly has done that – this album is two years in the making (thank goodness Alpha Pup were so patient). It is a record bursting with genres, and it’s not afraid to use them: obscure samples are blended together with analogue and digital compositions so that each song provides new and interesting insights. From the serene carousel-like electronic blips of ‘Voices’ to the ultra-dubstep rhythms of ‘Orion’s Belt Buckle’ to the organ frenzy of ‘The Eye’, this is not an easy ride for the listener. Not easy, but thoroughly satisfying, and with the promise that this album will grow on you over the coming weeks and months. Mr Alfaro should be very proud of his debut LP. Released on the 30th March on Alpha Pup Records. Also check out the free download here and the Free The Robots mix on Paris DJs.
