VA – Black Feeling Vol. 2 (Freestyle)
If you go way back in time to 2009 you will find a track by The Mighty Show-Stoppers called ‘Hippy Skippy Moon Strut’ on our MemeMix006. That stand-out track was pure, concentrated funk, but the band was completely made up. ‘Made up’ in the sense of it not being a regular set of people making music – in this case it was one of a number of ‘ideas’ from the prolific Lance Ferguson that together made up an album of other ‘virtual’ bands from Lance’s mind, called ‘Black Feeling’. The Mighty Show-Stoppers – Shaft In Africa (Freestyle)
Can’t wait to get our hands on the full album of this. The 45 is a taster of a forthcoming LP called ‘Black Feeling Two’ which has been conjured up by Lance Ferguson (he of The Bamboos) and follows on, naturally enough, from the 2007 LP, ‘Black Feeling’. The twist with these albums are that [...]
Lanu – Her 12 Faces (Tru Thoughts)
By now we don’t need to tell you that Lanu is the solo recording nomme-de-guerre of Lance Ferguson, band leader of the mighty Bamboos, whose long player, ’4′, we included as one of our top 5 albums of 2010. Lanu – Beautiful Trash
This track by Lanu (aka Lance Ferguson, the front-man for top-drawer funk band The Bamboos) is currently available only on a very limited edition white vinyl 7″. It features Megan Washington on vocals, who has previously sung with The Bamboos (on Kings Of Leon cover, ‘King Of The Rodeo‘) and her debut LP on Universal [...]
The Bamboos – 4 (Tru Thoughts)
This is the LP where The Bamboos bring it home, in spades: a real masterpiece of under-stated funk music. This is still as tight a band as you will find anywhere, but rather than just ‘go large’ on the funk (as many of their contemporaries tend to do), this is a much more measured affair of [...]
